(English) Pronunciation Essentials 1 is intended for learners of all levels who wish to develop and/or improve their fluency in speaking English.
This course consists of hundreds of minutes of pre-recorded materials, which include: in-depth explanations, voice warm-ups, individual sounds practice, International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), practice sentences, word stress, sentence stress, phrasing, ‘melodic logic’ of a message, pauses, tones, and more.
Our unique step-by-step approach introduces the basic elements of the melody of English, such as: biomechanics and vocalisations of individual sounds; ‘phrase’ breathing pattern and intonation; connections between the melodic aspects and the grammar components of the English language – and how they affect the real-life meanings and functions of communication.
(English) Pronunciation Essentials 1 is for those who would like to start building strong foundations for speaking with clarity and confidence, and those who wish to ‘unblock’ areas of doubt and insecurity in spoken communication in English.
This course aims to help you start (or continue) on the journey of finding your own ‘English’ voice, and make you feel comfortable in the melody of the English language.
If this sounds good enough for you, then let’s get started.
Pronunciation Essentials 1 is intended for learners of all levels who wish to learn and develop the foundations for the correct sound production and the melody of English.
(English) Pronunciation Essentials 1 aims to fit learners who wish to:
In Module 1, we focus on the approach to the practice of pronunciation and explain the framework as well as learn which parts of our body are responsible for creating sounds.
In Module 2, we focus on the warm up techniques for our speech apparatus (jaw, tongue, vocal chords, etc.) to make sure your body is ready for the pronunciation practise, and that each pronunciation session is as much effective as possible.
In Module 3, we focus on all symbols that the International Phonetic Alphabet uses to describe sounds, and we have a look at the why it’s important to also practise the sounds that we have no problems with.
In Module 4, we focus on the practise of individual sounds. We look in detail at how we need to position and use our speech apparatus (jaw, lips, voice, etc.) in order to create a specific sound.
In Module 5, we focus on the elements that create the intonation pattern of the English language. We look at breathing and air management, types of stress used to create intonation (i.e. interpretation/intention, word, sentence)
In Module 6, we focus on how to build a melody of the ‘whole’ message out of smaller bits of intonation (phrases) and how to connect them (phrases) with each other with different tones and pauses. We also look at the most common types of mistakes, and how to avoid them.
In Module 7, we focus on how to ‘control’ stress and the function it has in creating ‘other’ meanings (i.e. subtext, dramatisation, etc.)
